RSC rolls out remote control package for on-tour IT admin

VNC Enterprise package improves service to RSC customers

RSC deploys RealVNC remote control package allowing customers to book online as they like it

The world-renowned Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) has deployed RealVNC's VNC Enterprise Edition (VNC EE) to improve IT across the company as well as customer service in its box offices and electronic kiosks.

It is a remote access and control system based on the original open-source cross-platform package, virtual network computing (VNC).

The team opted for the VNC EE rollout because some of its members were already using the free non-enterprise version of the package and there were some attractive additional features within the enterprise version.

The solution allows the IT helpdesk to gain easy remote access to PCs or laptops being used in the UK or across the globe. It also provides remote monitoring for the company's box offices and support for its electronic kiosks.

Wayne Evans, RSC systems manager, said: “Being able to take control of any remote PC to fix problems, monitor systems and do routine maintenance and administration is far more efficient and cost effective than the traditional approach of dispatching helpdesk staff to different locations or attempting to troubleshoot over the phone.”

One of the advantages of VNC EE is that the package uses minimal system resources, as well as industry-standard security providing secure connections between the RSC's IT helpdesks and its remote locations.

In addition, using the VNC deployment tool means the RSC IT team can perform desktop or server upgrades without making onsite visits.
