Igel expands virtual desktop support

Igel Technology has added support foe a range of machines to its firmware

Thin client firm Igel Technology is claiming support for a broad range of virtual desktop systems in the latest update to its Linux firmware.

Igel Universal Desktop terminals powered by Linux now have the Ericom PowerTerm WebConnect client integrated, which enables users to link to sessions via Windows Terminal Services, Citrix XenApp, VMware Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI), plus Blade PCs and legacy terminal emulations.

PowerTerm WebConnect is Ericom's alternative platform to Citrix for connecting users to server-hosted sessions as well as virtual desktops. However, Igel also has support for Citrix XenDesktop, plus other server-hosted and virtual desktop platforms.

“Igel’s Universal Desktop strategy is all about providing our customers with choice,” said worldwide strategic marketing director Stephen Yeo. He added that it gives customers the freedom to choose which platform to use when planning a migration to a virtual desktop infrastructure.

Igel said its Linux firmware upgrade is available immediately and free of charge for customers with compatible models.
