Charger uses sun to power mobile kit
Solar Technology is to release a pocket-sized solar charging unit capable of charging mobile phones and PDAs
Solar Technology is to introduce a portable solar charger unit capable of powering mobile devices such as PDAs and mobile phones. The unit is designed to work even in the UK, where sunlight is relatively weak, and can power a mobile phone for 44 hours, according to the firm.
Available from March, the FreeLoader can charge up battery-powered devices at the same time as charging its own internal battery, and holds its charge for up to three months. The unit also removes the need to carry country specific adaptors when travelling abroad, the firm said. FreeLoader is small enough to fit into a coat pocket when closed up, and costs £29.99.
The FreeLoader ships with adapters to fit many mobile handsets from makers such as Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Motorola and LG, plus a mini USB connector for BlackBerry handhelds, Tom Tom satellite navigation devices and some Bluetooth headsets.
Although FreeLoader will appeal to mobile workers as a way to keep devices powered while out on the road, Solar Technology said the FreeLoader can also help to save the environment by using solar power to charge up kit instead of mains electricity.
“Solar technology really is the best value green option because it's free. FreeLoader is a practical solution for anyone to take away or even to use at home. We have made the technology available at an affordable price so that everyone can have an environmentally friendly way to charge their favourite hand-held gadgets,” said Solar Technology managing director Adrian Williams.
