Sun's Open ESB integration platform is launched

Sun uses the JavaOne developer conference to preview its integration platform Open ESB

Sun Microsystems has announced a preview release of the new version of integration platform Open ESB, at its JavaOne developer conference in San Francisco.

Launched in association with the Project Open ESB Community, Open ESB 2 is an open source enterprise service bus designed so that developers can build SOAs by integrating web services with enterprise applications.

It features various technologies and components which will help to reduce integration costs and improve agility, said Sun’s vice president of software infrastructure, Jim McHugh.

The release includes integration with Sun’s GlassFish and NetBeans developer tools, compatibility with third party components, and allows developers to create plug-ins for specific tasks.

“It’s an extensible architecture which will [provide] continued flexibility,” said McHugh. “It allows us to innovate faster, and when you’re completely transparent about [being open source] it allows others to join with you.”

The product also includes a Java Business Integration runtime, and several features in Project Open ESB will be made available in later versions of Sun’s Composite Application Platform Suite, which supports the creation of composite applications, said Sun.
