DotMobi helps developers
New database resource launched to accelerate the creation of mobile internet apps
DotMobi, the registry for the .mobi top level domain, has announced plans to create a database of all mobile handset specifications, in order to provide developers with a resource to help create applications for the mobile internet more cheaply and easily.
The dotMobi mobile device database aims to be more accurate than any current resource and will involve sharing and appropriating data from the developer community, according to the firm.
"Rather like a Wikipedia for the mobile development community, the database provides comprehensive information on handsets across the world," said James Pearce, the firm's vice president of technology. "Developers can use it to access as well as share information alleviating the common problems in developing consistently great content that can be accessed via any type of mobile phone handset across the globe."
