Varney report on government service delivery makes key recommendations

The government is to establish a single ‘change of circumstances’ service for citizens by 2010, according to a Treasury report.

Sir David Varney’s report into public service delivery published last week made a series of recommendations on the joined-up government agenda to both improve services and cut costs.

The new service will mean citizens only have to contact the government once to register a death, birth or change of address. At the moment bereaved relatives, for example, have to contact up to 44 organisations.

‘Public service delivery needs to evolve to meet the emerging challenges,’ said Varney.
