Grey Londoners to benefit from old computers
Age concern plans to find new homes for firms' old PCs
London mayor Ken Livingstone, non-profit computer recycling firm Maxtech and charity Age Concern have joined forces to encourage more senior citizens to go online.
Livingstone will write to businesses in London to ask them to donate computers that they no longer need. These will go to Maxtech, which will refurbish and reformat the computers before sending them to Age Concern for distribution.
Livingstone said, “Access to a computer, and in particular the internet, is an increasingly valuable part of every day life.” Samantha Mauger, Age Concern’s London chief executive, added, “This will make such a difference to the lives of many older people.”
