Survey suggests companies do not want to buy business intelligence and database tools separately

Firms want integrated BI

Four out of five UK businesses would prefer to buy business intelligence (BI) tools integrated with database software, according to a survey by Redshift Research, commissioned by Microsoft.

Some 80 per cent of UK firms with more than 200 employees that were questioned in the study said they do not want to purchase BI tools separately to the database solutions they run on.

“It is interesting to see from the survey that over two thirds of larger UK firms are using some form of BI and that they expect BI functionality to be included when purchasing a new database,” said Microsoft SQL Server product manager, David Hobbs-Mallyon.

“These results clearly show, expectations have moved on about what is expected be included."

Ovum analyst David Mitchell said: "Provision of advanced BI-support within the database has now become the next facility that database manufacturers need to provide in order to remain competitive."
