Barclays awards €200m deal to Getronics
Desktop and application management deal
€200m outsourcing deal
Barclays has awarded a five-year, €200m deal to IT services firm Getronics for desktop and application management to over 30,000 users.
Getronics' work will focus on two separate phases.
The first will focus on the transition of the bank's current technology and business practices.
This will be followed by the installation and integration of new technology in order to improve the efficiency of its workspace management system.
'As part of our continuous assessment of IT support to meet the changing needs of our business, we have reviewed our current supplier arrangements,' said Paul Idzik, chief operating officer at Barclays.
'Getronics was a logical choice due to its 18 year track record with Barclays and its validated positive experience with transitioning and supporting other clients in the financial services sector.'
In September, Barclays said it was reviewing a seven-year, $350m (£190m) desktop migration deal signed with EDS in 2003.
At the time, a spokesman for the bank said that as the bank evolved, it would need to review and adapt its IT systems to ensure that the right structures are in place to meet its business needs.
‘We are in the process of reassessing the structure and nature of our contract with EDS based on the changing IT needs of the bank,’ he said.
‘We have ongoing relationships with HP, Accenture and Microsoft. This contract relates to migrating desktop software, and is by its very nature a one-off contract.’
