Online dating lets IT professionals earn a bit on the side

IT developers can make a tidy sum by developing white label dating sites

IT professionals are making money form their own dating websites

Entrepreneurial IT professionals can stand to earn up to £12,000 per month by setting up their own dating sites.

Global Personals is a white-label dating web platform that businesses and individuals can use to set up their own dating sites and make money by doing so.

It is used by web sites such as Dateline.co.uk, Plentyoffish.com and Flirtfix.com. In addition, some well established brands have created their own dating sites using the platform, including magazines Men’s Health, Maxim and FHM.

Typically, these sites will charge customers £20 to £25 per month, which Global Personals takes and pays the site owners between 50 and 60 per cent of all revenue.

However, according to Ross Williams, founder and CEO of Global Personals, the majority of customers are IT professionals looking to earn cash on the side, and some have been very successful in doing so.

“We have a lot of entrepreneurs that use our platform. Around 90 per cent of our partners are individuals who work in IT. They know about SEO, web development and web design, and they can create a site on our platform free of charge,” he explained.

“We’re motivated to help them succeed because we use a revenue sharing model. Unless they make money, we won’t either.”

He added that a couple of dozen individuals from IT backgrounds are earning between £15,000 and £20,000 profit per month from their own dating sites.

Williams explained that the key to creating a successful web site is to identify a niche and offer services that are clearly differentiated from those offered by different sites.

The Global Personals web site and Whitelabeldating.com provide information for companies interested in setting up a site of this sort.
