Open University has its first CIO
The Open University has appointed David Matthewman as its first chief information officer (CIO).
Matthewman assumed the new role this month and the Open University said that the new post reflects the importance of IT to the future success of the university.
Matthewman was previously chief technology officer at Directgov, the UK government’s web site for citizens. During his tenure, his team supported a substantial growth in visitor numbers from six million to 30 million per month. The launch of the pandemic flu information service was also under his leadership.
He also led an initiative to establish a foundation project for the G-Cloud strategy, which aims to contribute to saving the government billions of pounds of its annual IT budget.
