Co-operative Food has unveiled an iPhone app that allows shoppers to scan products' barcodes to see where items were grown.

Launched at the Royal Bath and West Show, the freely downloadable "Grown by Us" app also provides information about food and drink produced by Co-operative Farms, the UK’s largest farmer.

Co-operative Farms cultivates more than 50,000 acres in the UK, and its Grown by Us range includes products grown on its farms, or made using produce grown by the business.

Retail competitor Tesco recently announced its iPhone app, which uses the iPhone camera for barcode scanning, and also an app allowing shoppers to check their Tesco Clubcard points balance.
