Open Text announces Web 2.0 strategy
Enterprise content management firm Open Text has announced its new Enterprise 2.0 additions
Open Text has explained its Enterprise 2.0 strategy for its customers, offering social computing tools and improved collaboration solutions.
Under the banner of 'Enterprise 2.0' the updates to Open Text's content management and workgroup products add features such as wikis, forums, blogs, tagging and real-time collaboration to the mix. The firm said that such technologies had redefined the web, and when applied in the enterprise could have a similar effect on application usage.
In order to be successful, customers must view Enterprise 2.0 within the context of their ECM strategies,” said Bill Forquer, Executive Vice President of Marketing at Open Text. “Many organisations treated email as special content outside their ECM strategy. Consequently, this silo treatment has degenerated email repositories into unmanaged chaos and unquantifiable risk. There is no need to repeat that experience with emerging 2.0 content and rich media.”
The emphasis is on collaborative working, and quickly set up developer groups. To speed up the initial set up process of groups Web 2.0 features, such as the wikis and forum discussion groups can be set up on the fly.
In a separate announcement the firm announced Livelink ECM Extended Collaboration, which is intended to simplify the implementation of its Web 2.0 tools and content management applications.
