Energy supplier develops mobile quote system
Technicians will be able to produce on-site price estimates
EDF Energy is to install a quotation system to allow technicians to produce on-site price estimates when they visit customers.
The aim is to cut lead times for technician’s work so they can spend more time working with customers. At the moment, quotations have to be generated remotely at call centres, says Dominic Hayes, EDF Energy’s connections project manager.
‘On-site surveying and quoting will speed up connections, allowing face-to-face discussions between the technician and the customer and eliminating inaccurate quotations,’ he said.
The energy firm wants the system to produce diagrams of cable plans, print quotations and to tie directly into its SAP system.
Butler Group analyst Teresa Jones says that EDF’s move is part of a trend to tie processes into one system.
‘Firms do not implement enterprise resource systems and stay static, they are always working around the edges,’ she said.
