Tool backs up mobile email

Application optimisation specialist Packeteer has upgraded its iShared Mobiliti software to allow mobile and remote desktop users to back up email and contact information stored in individual Outlook .pst files by synchronising them with central Exchange servers.
Version 6.0 of the software, acquired when Packeteer purchased wide area files services (Wafs) specialist Tacit Networks earlier this year, uses cacheing and a conflict-resolution option that preserves different users’ file changes across different locations.
An email redirection feature synchronises local and network copies; and WAN optimisation capabilities reduce the amount of data travelling across narrowband mobile network links.
