Triple X domain rejected

Icann rejects proposal for pornography domain

The proposal to create a top level domain for adult material has been rejected by Icann, the body responsible for managing the internet.

The idea of a .xxx domain has been about for seven years, and Icann's latest consultation on the domain drew a lot of feedback from groups that were concerned that legitimising pornography sites would not help counter them, protect users from being exposed to inappropriate images, or do anything to limit the number of such sites.

"This decision was the result of very careful scrutiny and consideration of all the arguments. That consideration has led a majority of the board to believe that the proposal should be rejected," said Dr Vint Cerf, chairman of ICANN
