NHS trust given WiFi treatment
Wifi-based voice and data network for Airedale NHS Trust
Airedale NHS Trust is installing a WiFi-based voice and data network across its General Hospital to speed up internal communications and increase efficiency.
Siemens Enterprise Communications technology is being rolled out across all acute wards to improve doctor contact and access to patient records.
Doctors want a single communicator with which they can make and receive calls, and which is integrated fully with the data network and can access medical information, says Geoff Goss, head of medical technical services at Airedale NHS Trust.
‘The best way forward is WiFi,’ he said.
‘Streamed video content, including X-rays, could be delivered to doctors’ wireless devices.’
The trust’s telephone network is being integrated with the voice over IP system to improve internal mobile communications such as paging.
