LogMeIn puts remote access on USB disk

LogMeIn Ignition is a viewer application on a USB disk

LogMeIn is supplementing its browser-based remote access tool with a new viewer application that can be carried around on a USB Flash disk, making it easier for mobile workers to access their computers remotely.

LogMeIn Ignition, available immediately, can be downloaded onto any USB storage device, such as an iPod, USB hard drive, or even a digital camera. When the device is plugged into a Windows PC, Ignition auto-runs and lets the user remotely view and control any other computer they have configured as a LogMeIn host.

Kevin Farrell, vice president of LogMeIn's digital living group, said that Ignition offers greater security and convenience for mobile workers.

"It leaves no footprint or trace of information behind on the guest PC," Farrell said. It can also store passwords on the USB device, making it easier for users that have multiple systems configured for remote access.

"It's all about enabling access anywhere – making life easier for our customers," Farrell said. Existing LogMeIn customers can use Ignition or a browser login to access remote PCs.

Ignition supports USB Flash drives with the U3 application environment, and can also be installed directly to the desktop on a user's main PC to give one-click access to remote systems. Ignition is available for a free 30-day trial, after which it costs $49.95 (£26) per year. There is no limit on the number of PCs that can be set up for remote control.
