Encryption strengthens Yosemite backup suite

Yosemite Back Up version 8.5 offers better backup and embedded encryption

Backup software vendor Yosemite Technologies has launched an updated version of its flagship suite featuring new encryption capabilities and integration with client backup technology from FileKeeper, which it acquired last month.

The company said Yosemite Back Up version 8.5 responds to mid-market demand for more secure backup, and features embedded 64bit, 128bit and 256bit encryption capabilities.

“Building encryption into the suite makes it far easier for small and medium-sized businesses, and means they can be confident they will not be exposed if tapes are lost or stolen,” said David Spate, vice-president for Europe, the Middle East and Africa at Yosemite.

Spate added that the new suite comes pre-integrated with FileKeeper’s backup technology to create a “continuous data protection” package. “If a laptop is lost, the company has a record of what was on it, allowing it to comply with regulations requiring firms to disclose what data has been compromised,” he said.

The licensing terms covering Yosemite Back Up Standard and Advanced editions are also set to be changed. The Standard edition will support unlimited data backup to an unlimited number of servers, while the Advanced edition will feature 10 free FileKeeper licences and two SAN Media Server and D2D2NE software licences for moving data from disk to other media.
