LG unveils high-contrast monitor

The LG Flatron L1960-TR's enhanced contrast technology makes it ideal for graphic design and photography

LG Electronics will today announce a 19in TFT monitor with high-contrast ratio technology, which the firm expects to appeal to graphics professionals as well as consumers.

The LG Flatron L1960-TR, available immediately, features Digital Fine Contrast (DFC) control to improve the display quality of images. The technology was introduced last year, but has now been enhanced to provide a contrast ration of 3000:1. Rival monitors typically achieve only a 700:1 contrast ratio, according to LG.

DFC expands the colour contrast of images and enhances grey scales to give a more vibrant image, and should prove useful for graphic design and photography, according to Louise Walsh of LG's LCD Monitor Division, "It's as close as you can get to the real thing," she said.

The L1960-TR costs about £240 and has both VGA and DVI video inputs.

LG also said it is planning to launch wide-screen 19in, 20in and 22in TFT monitors around the April timeframe.
