Ofgem improves information access
Document management software will also improve efficiency
Ofgem is improving access to information
Regulator Ofgem has launched a new web site to improve access to information on the gas and electricity markets for consumers and businesses.
The gas and electricity watchdog is to install document management software to reduce costs and improve efficiency by allowing staff to find information quickly and collaborate more effectively.
‘As a national watchdog we have a duty to provide comprehensive information on gas and electricity markets,’ said Ofgem director of enterprise content management Nick Simpson.
‘We can now publish this content far more efficiently and quickly and everyone can find the information and navigate around the new web site far more intuitively.’
People accessing the new Ofgem web site can search for and retrieve information from approximately 16,000 documents that are constantly updated.
‘The new intranet will also help staff work together more effectively by making it easier to retrieve and share information,’ said Simpson.
‘Currently there are 1.2 million documents saved in our internal files. Our current system makes it very difficult to search for and access these files and in some instances employees have turned to the web site to find a document.’
Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 will underpin the content and document management software, which is provided by Parity.
