IBM to ship super rack servers

Web 2.0 application hosting market is targeted with high-end systems

IBM is claiming a green dividend for its high-end iDataflex rack-mounted servers, which are due to start shipping next month.

The firm predicted that the Intel quad-core Xeon based machines will us 40 per cent less energy than standard rack-mounted systems.

IBM has combined two racks and expects to sell the blade systems for "north of $20m", according to the Wall Street Journal.

The systems will be targeted at firms running large web sites or datacentres hosting Web 2.0 applications.
