Restoring Exchange Server mailboxes and individual lost messages can be a complex and time-consuming task for network administrators. One solution calls for a separate recovery server to be configured and maintained, another for message-level backups to be prepared in advance. Aelita Recovery Manager (ARM) for Exchange does away with both, enabling individual mailboxes, messages and other information to be recovered to an operational server from ordinary backups.
The Aelita software can retrieve contents from any MTF (Microsoft Tape Format) tape produced using Microsoft backup tools or third-party applications. Support is included for tape libraries, and it is possible to restore selective mailbox content including contacts and messages.
Individual attachments can be recovered using the Aelita software, with a built-in search tool to locate data using criteria such as subject, date, recipient and/or sender and keywords. An Outlook interface also lets messages be previewed and selected items can be restored directly to an online Exchange server or to an Outlook .pst file.
Recovery Manager will replay log files to include items not committed to the message store when the backup was taken. The software can be used with Exchange 5.5, 2000 and Exchange Server 2003, installs on a Windows 2000 host or later, and is managed using a Microsoft Management Console plug-in.
