£80m asset management system to help improve motorway network

The system will manage roadside assets

The Highways Agency (HA) is to set up an integrated asset management (IAM) system to help improve the reliability and maintenance of England’s major roads.

The organisation is looking for a supplier to implement the system, in a contract that could be worth up to £80m over four years.

HA manages the motorways and trunks roads around the country and is responsible for assets worth more than £75bn. Its IAM plan will collect and manage data on roadside assets such as roads, bridges, drainage, street lighting, signs and signals, to support the work of staff and third-party contractors responsible for the upkeep of the network.

An IT supplier is being sought to deploy an off-the-shelf IAM software package that will be tailored to meet the agency’s needs.

“The aim of the IAM strategy is to improve the way the network is managed, to enhance the reliability, resilience and effectiveness of the network to meet the key performance targets over the next 10 years and to support financial planning,” said the contract notice published in the Official Journal of the European Union.
