MEPs have thrown their support behind a scheme to create a Europe-wide electronic business register.
The European Parliament adopted a resolution on the interconnection of business registers on 7 September, after it was put forward for consideration by the Committee on Legal Affairs.
There was an increasing demand for information about companies across the borders of member states, said the Parliament in its adoption statement. While electronic information is currently stored by each member state, a single database would save time and cost and mandatory registration should be considered, it added.
The resolution will next pass to the European Council and Commission for further consideration and amendment.
