The London Stock Exchange's (LSE's) information system suffered technical problems half an hour before close of market on Wednesday.

A technical glitch forced Infolect, the LSE’s electronic price display system, to shut down, interrupting trading and closing auctions.

While the LSE’s trading platform TradElect remained operational and prices continued to be disseminated to the market, connectivity issues affected a number of firms placing orders during this period.

An LSE spokeswoman said the cause of outage originated in a connectivity problem between Infolect and member firms’ computer systems.

The incident marked the first LSE outage since 2000.
