Nerd Digital named as CIM finalist

Computing's former business development director is hoping for a win at the Chartered Institute of Marketing’s Global Marketing Excellence Awards 2023.

Digital marketing agency Nerd Digital, founded by former Computing business development director Noel Anderson, was named as a finalist in the Best New Product/Service category, along with its client Evoke Classics.

The category will be judged by a panel of experts from brands including Virgin Atlantic and Microsoft, as well as leading marketing agencies.

The awards, which will be held at London's The Brewery on 4th October 2023 and hosted by comedian Tom Allen (no relation to Computing's own editor), recognise the best marketing industry talent from across the world.

Nerd Digital and Evoke Classics hope to be jointly crowned in the Best New Product/Service category for their successful launch of www.evoke-classics.com - an online, female-led classic car auction and community, headed by sales director Sarah Crabtree.

Sarah became a well-known TV personality in the UK TV series Bangers and Cash. On leaving the show in 2021, she wanted to challenge the male-dominated classic car auction industry by creating a unique online classic car auction and community platform, and Evoke Classics was born.

Noel says: "From the moment we received the brief the task was clear - could Sarah enter this market, challenge the status quo, and build a unique brand from a standing start? The answer was a resounding yes. We knew this had the potential to be a fascinating new product launch and we're delighted to be shortlisted for this award."

Sarah added: "Bringing Nerd Digital on board was clearly one of our best decisions. They recognised our clear mission and defined opportunity, which enabled them to lead a well-executed and digitally-advanced marketing strategy. Evoke Classics' online platform has brought people together in a hugely progressive fashion, so of course, we are thrilled to be considered for product launch of the year."

Chris Daly, CEO of CIM, said: "This year's submissions have been truly exceptional, showcasing creativity, innovation, and the tireless dedication of those in our profession over the past 12 months. In times of uncertainty, the global marketing industry has once again risen to the occasion, crafting remarkable campaigns, and reaping the rewards for both organisations and agencies alike. For over a decade, our awards have celebrated the industry's triumphs and the exceptional individuals behind them, and this year, selecting the shortlist has proven more challenging than ever before."

"I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all those who have made it on to the shortlist; this is a huge achievement and the individuals we are celebrating tonight truly embody the finest marketing talent from around the world."

The CIM Global Marketing Excellence Awards have been running for more than ten years and recognise and reward brilliance in the field of marketing, celebrating the finest minds within the profession.

We wish Noel, Sarah and all involved the very best of luck.
