Q&A: JPMorganChase, UK IT Industry Awards finalist

'AI adoption needs strong governance, clear accountability, and robust controls'

"[The awards are] an opportunity to celebrate the people who make modern, secure, cloud-native banking possible."

This November, the tech community will come together for the biggest and brightest event in the calendar: The UK IT Industry Awards.

A sparkling celebration of the very best people, projects and organisations shaping the future of technology, we will announce the winners at a live awards ceremony on Wednesday, 11th November in London.

JPMorganChase is a finalist in two categories: Development Team of the Year and Project Team of the Year. We talked to Mohamed Noah (Mo), CTO of JPMorganChase Personal Investing in Europe, to learn more about what the company has been up to this year.

Description
Mohamed "Mo" Noah

Mo is responsible for world class engineering talent that can deliver on the promise of a secure, scalable, market-leading digital bank outside of the US running on the cloud. Prior to joining JPMorganChase, he was CTO/Co-founder of DeepIntent (acquired in 2017), a marketing technology company that focuses on connecting healthcare brands with health care professionals and patients. He has also held roles as CTO/Co-founder of Variance and Head of Data Engineering at Memorial Sloan Kettering.

What prompted you to enter the UK IT Awards this year? Without giving anything away, of course!

We entered to recognise the teams behind Chase and to benchmark our engineering and delivery practices against the best in the UK. The UK IT Awards are a respected industry platform, and we see it as an opportunity to celebrate the people who make modern, secure, cloud-native banking possible, while reinforcing our long-term commitment to investing in UK technology talent and the UK digital ecosystem.

What would winning this award mean to both your people and your customers/partners?

For our people, it would be meaningful external validation that we're doing the hard things well - building at pace while maintaining high standards for resilience, security, and operational discipline. For customers, it would be an additional signal of confidence that the technology supporting their money is robust, well-governed, and built to scale for the long term.

What would you say is your company's proudest achievement over the past year?

Launching Chase in Germany and expanding beyond the UK has been a major milestone. On 20th May 2026, Chase reached #1 in the Apple App Store Finance category and #3 across all free apps. Since then, customers have completed onboarding journeys at pace in Germany. For us, that's a strong proof point that we can deliver trusted, cloud-native banking experiences across markets at pace, underpinned by the rigour expected of a global, regulated financial institution.

What lessons do you think the industry has learned over the past year and what changes do you think it still needs to make?

The industry has learned that resilience is not a back-office concern but a product feature, and that cloud cost management requires sustained FinOps discipline. We've also seen that AI adoption needs strong governance, clear accountability, and robust controls.

Going forward, the industry still needs more consistent engineering standards for operational readiness (testing, observability, recovery), and clearer frameworks for responsible data and AI use.

What do you see as the main opportunities for the industry in the coming 12 months? How do you plan to capitalise on those opportunities?

The biggest opportunity is using responsible AI and automation to make everyday customer experiences more reliable, secure, and responsive – detecting issues earlier, resolving them faster, and supporting customers more effectively. We plan to invest further in platform self-service and secure-by-design patterns, so teams can move faster safely and deliver meaningful customer outcomes at scale.
