Interview: Lloyds Banking Group, UK IT Industry Awards finalist
'AI remains the biggest opportunity'
“The biggest challenge has been unlearning old ways of working and developing new skills for an AI-driven future.”
Technology is one of the fastest-growing industries in the world, and there are hundreds of events dedicated to recognising success - but only one boasts the professionalism, scale and recognition to lead the way.
The UK IT Industry Awards are the largest and most well-known event in the technology industry calendar. Owned and operated by Computing and BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, the awards enjoy a level of professionalism and industry knowledge not seen at other shows.
This year's winners will be announced at a live awards ceremony on Wednesday 12th November in London – and Lloyds Banking Group (LBG), a finalist in 12 categories, is betting on success.
We talked to Peter Brown, Head of Engineering for Smarter Journeys Lab at Lloyds, to find out more about the financial giant’s biggest challenges and achievements over the past year, which include a recent implementation of gen AI and LLM solutions.
Why do events like the UK IT Industry Awards matter?
They provide a fantastic platform to showcase the incredible work our teams have delivered and to share valuable learnings with the wider industry.
What would winning this award mean to you and your company?
It would be a tremendous achievement, reinforcing our purpose of helping Britain prosper. Awards like these demonstrate that we're making a real impact.
What would you say is your company's proudest achievement over the past year?
While I can't speak for the entire organisation, for me it's the growth mindset we've embraced - adopting and implementing AI solutions at scale.
What have been the biggest challenges of 2025 so far and how have you overcome them? How have your people helped with that?
The biggest challenge has been unlearning old ways of working and developing new skills for an AI-driven future. Our people have been instrumental in this transformation, embracing change and continuous learning.
How do you think the industry has changed over the past year? What changes do you think it still needs to make?
The most significant shift has been the impact of AI. The industry must continue to adapt, ensuring ethical, scalable, and responsible AI adoption.
What do you see as the main opportunities for the industry in the coming year? How do you plan to capitalise on those opportunities?
AI remains the biggest opportunity. We plan to build on our early successes, scaling AI solutions responsibly to deliver better outcomes for customers and colleagues.
