HTC Desire 10 series: latest rumours, specs and release date

HTC to announce Desire 10 Lifestyle and Desire 10 Pro

HTC has shed some more light on the upcoming Desire 10 smartphone series in an email invitation sent to the media and a video posted on HTC's official YouTube channel.

The video shows a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner along with a #BeEdgier hashtag.

Release date
HTC is due to announce the two smartphones on 20 September. Those interested should stay glued to HTC.com/launch at 8am BST for the live stream.

Specs
The Desire has long been HTC's mid-range offering, and not a lot is expected to change this time around. The HTC Desire 10 Lifestyle will be the more affordable of the two, while the Desire 10 Pro is said to be the more premium model with better specifications.

Prolific tipster Evan Blass tweeted two images of the upcoming phones in white and black.

The phones also appear to have contrasting edges: gold on black and gold on white (hence #BeEdgier, we assume). We're unable to comment on the build, but we can't rule out the Pro model being fashioned from metal (if limited to the edges).

Details surrounding the Pro are scant, but we know that the Lifestyle model will have a 5.5in panel at 1,280x720 pixels. This is just HD, so it's not too much of a leap to assume that the premium model might have a higher-resolution Full HD display.

'LlabTooFer' has claimed on Twitter that the Lifestyle will use a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor. If that's the case we can expect the price to sit around the $150-$200 mark.

HTC will issue two different variants depending on the location, one with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage and one with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. We also wouldn't rule out microSD expansion.

We can expect the same attention to detail and design flourishes we saw last time around on the Desire 830, despite the anticipated lower price. We hope to see the return of the Desire's grooved power buttons and ultra-fine acoustic mesh speaker grilles. After all, something needs to protect those rumoured BoomSound Hi-Fi Edition stereo speakers.

The Desire 10 series is also expected to deliver 24-bit system audio, along with a decent set of buds that should thrill audiophiles and HTC 10 fans alike.

We're optimistic that the Desire 10 Series will deliver when it comes to cameras. The rear 13MP camera will come with single LED flash and an illuminated (BSI) sensor for improved performance in low light. On the front there'll be a 5MP snapper with the same BSI sensor technology.

The timing of the release suggests that the new phones will run the latest Android Marshmallow build at launch, as ever with the HTC Sense overlay.
