What's the most exciting part of your current role?
Knowing that what we are doing to leverage digital, data, technology and AI is really helping make a different to increase impact for the children and communities we serve.
The wider sector is facing a number of challenges, and we need to embrace the opportunities that the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) presents to both level-up in the sector, and then accelerate.
Doing this in an organisation and team where we can share, collaborate and learn together to drive this forward, you feel that true connection to purpose on a daily basis, which is very rewarding.
What do you consider your greatest IT achievement of the last 12 months?
We have achieved a tremendous amount: Delivered a new CRM, CMS, data platform, single customer view, MDM/MDG, cloud transformation, extensive cyber delivery, a new operating model, and really made some meaningful strides in our AI strategy and delivery roadmap. Plus, we developed a three-year DDaT & AI strategy and roadmap in all areas.
The activity of the last 12 months was all down to the team’s hard work.
What's the biggest challenge facing IT leaders today, and how are you tackling it?
The continual challenge of having to achieve more with less. A main lesson learned from the pandemic is that most businesses have realised they continually need to innovate, transform and evolve, so you have the continuing challenge of needing to continually improve while running large BAU operations.
It is really changing the mindset that transformation is a one-off project or initiative, and that you need to change the organisation mindset to one of continuous improvement/growth.
What piece of technology could you not live without, and why?
I am becoming increasingly dependent on an AI copilot for a lot of my day-to-day work; this is anything from meeting notes, organising my email or analysis to preparing documents. It has really saved me a lot of time in the day-to-day admin work.
What excites you most about the future of IT?
The continuing evolution of AI and advanced analytics progresses at a dizzying pace. I feel we really are on in the middle of the 4IR, and it is an exciting time to work in this space.
What’s the strangest job you’ve ever had?
The strangest job I ever had was part time as a student: catching chickens in a chicken farm. I couldn't eat chicken for the next few years!
If you could instantly master one new skill, what would it be?
I am still trying to perfect my skills in making a Sunday roast... It is a very much a work in progress!
