What's the most exciting part of your current role?
The most exciting part of my current role is driving innovation at scale across government, influencing the future of public sector digital services. I lead cross-government strategies on emerging technologies such as AI, machine learning, and sustainability, helping departments build cutting-edge capabilities that serve millions of citizens.
Collaborating with diverse stakeholder - from Ministers to technical teams - and guiding international initiatives with governments globally energises me. Shaping transformative digital strategies and seeing tangible impact in public service delivery makes every day inspiring and meaningful.
What excites me every day is the ability to shape the future. Leading on emerging technologies for UK government, I work across departments, industries, and even countries to drive digital transformation that truly impacts lives. Whether it's developing AI strategies or collaborating with international governments, every project is about more than technology - it's about building trust, inspiring change, and creating solutions that matter. Empowering diverse teams to innovate boldly and ethically makes my role not just exciting, but deeply meaningful.
What do you consider your greatest IT achievement of the last 12 months?
Over the last years, my greatest achievement has been leading the development of the UK government's first Emerging Technology and Innovation Strategy. This comprehensive framework has united departments under a shared vision for leveraging AI, LLMs, and sustainable technology. I also created the "Emerging Tech Register" and "Future Forward Look" tools, providing a strategic lens on the impact and maturity of new technologies. This work has directly influenced policy decisions, accelerated innovation adoption, and enhanced cross-government collaboration on future technologies.
What's the biggest challenge facing IT leaders today, and how are you tackling it?
Today's biggest challenge is harnessing innovation while safeguarding trust. AI, data and automation are transformative - but without ethical leadership, they risk widening divides. I tackle this head-on by embedding transparency, ethics, and user-centred design into every initiative. I build Communities of Practice, shape sustainable strategies, and foster a culture where innovation is not only fast but fair, inclusive, and human-first. It's about leading with both ambition and accountability.
The biggest challenge is balancing rapid innovation with responsible governance. Emerging technologies like AI and blockchain offer huge potential but raise critical ethical, security and operational risks. I tackle this by embedding ethical frameworks, agile governance models, and continuous learning into all technology adoption strategies.
I actively lead cross-government communities of practice, facilitating open dialogue, training, and collaboration to ensure new technologies are deployed safely, sustainably and for maximum societal benefit.
What piece of technology could you not live without, and why?
Cloud or SaaS collaboration platforms are indispensable to me. Tools like Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Google Suite, Miro and Trello enable real-time collaboration, innovation workshops and stakeholder engagement across geographies.
When leading globally distributed teams and driving cross-government initiatives, seamless collaboration is key. These technologies have broken down barriers of distance and enabled a culture of agility, inclusivity, and transparency that is vital to the success of modern digital leadership.
What excites you most about the future of IT?
The convergence of AI, quantum computing and sustainable technology excites me the most. These advances will unlock solutions to some of humanity's greatest challenges - from climate change to healthcare. In government especially, the opportunity to design public services that are hyper-personalised, efficient and truly citizen-centric is immense. I am passionate about leading ethical, inclusive innovation that doesn't just adapt to change but shapes a better future for everyone.
The future of IT excites me because it holds the power to democratise opportunity. AI, quantum computing, sustainable technologies - they're not just technological milestones; they are catalysts for social impact. I am inspired by a future where government services are smarter, greener and deeply human-centred - where innovation closes gaps instead of creating them, and where technology becomes the greatest equaliser across society.
What’s the strangest job you’ve ever had?
Early in my career, I volunteered to design and deliver cross-cultural communication workshops for executives across Europe, India and the Middle East. It felt strange at first - training senior leaders much older and more experienced than me. However, it turned out to be transformative, helping me develop critical skills in empathy, influence and cultural intelligence that have shaped my leadership journey ever since.
It was surreal advising seasoned leaders, but it taught me an invaluable lesson: leadership isn't about age or title; it's about empathy, insight, and building bridges across differences. That experience continues to shape my leadership philosophy today.
If you could instantly master one new skill, what would it be?
I would master quantum computing. It's the next great frontier - offering the power to transform sectors from climate science to healthcare. Mastering it would allow me to pioneer solutions that address society's most complex challenges and position the public sector at the cutting edge of global innovation. It's not just about mastering the technology - it's about shaping a future that serves humanity better.
