Part of the IT Leaders 100 - a list of the most influential IT leaders in the UK in 2025.

Having a career in IT the majority of her working life has delivered a varied experience to Moira, where no one day is ever the same. During that time, she has added both business and technical skills to enable her to produce the best quality of work she can.

Moira says, “I am now approaching the last few years of my career but as is the nature of IT, no slowing down is allowed. I will look back and feel a sense of satisfaction at achievements over those years, working in an ever evolving and exciting world of technology.”

What's the most exciting part of your current role?

Recognising the positive and beneficial impact the correct technology solution will deliver to improve business processes. Also, identifying the solution that is the best fit is challenging and must be reviewed on a regular basis.

What do you consider your greatest IT achievement of the last 12 months?

Keeping the lights on whist project managing the transition of numerous business systems. Each project is interconnected and getting all delivered on time was challenging but achieved.

What's the biggest challenge facing IT leaders today, and how are you tackling it?

Managing company data from many resources to provide a centralised low-cost view. AI is a tool that can provide a solution.

Cybersecurity is also a big challenge and identifying the right solution requires a constant review of threats and how to manage the risk.

What piece of technology could you not live without, and why?

My washing machine! I would also miss my microwave as I’m more familiar with that than my oven. Sat nav has saved me on many an occasion, too.

What excites you most about the future of IT?

IT has always been ever evolving and technology has changed from being business task focused to more consumer driven. We live in a technological world where we depend on IT for many things. It is interesting to see how my two-year-old grandson takes technology for granted in his world. He will see many more changes I am sure, but I do hope they will be good for the human race.

What’s the strangest job you’ve ever had?

I really cannot think of one, although I’ve probably been asked to do strange things within jobs that are definitely not in the job description.

If you could instantly master one new skill, what would it be?

Playing the piano. I really should say cook!
