What's the most exciting part of your current role?

Being a small biotech that's doing amazing things there are so many opportunities for IT to have a positive impact on the business, while also being able to get involved outside of the traditional IT areas to add business value.

What do you consider your greatest IT achievement of the last 12 months?

The transformation of the IT functions from ad-hoc, inconsistent and frustrating to a secure, reliable and consistent business unit.

What's the biggest challenge facing IT leaders today, and how are you tackling it?

The speed that technology moves and the ease of initial adoption for users. For example, it seems so easy for a user to get started with Gen-AI but often they aren't aware of all the security, privacy and controls that IT need to put in place.

What piece of technology could you not live without, and why?

My Apple Watch. It tells the time and ensures I get to meetings but more importantly I use it to keep myself accountable to getting in enough sleep and steps, taking breaks, tracking workout etc.

This may be annoying or overly controlling for some, however, these targets help me keep in shape and avoid burning out again.

What excites you most about the future of IT?

Every company is a tech company, even if they won't admit it, which means IT gets to play an amazing role in business innovation and positively impacting the world. Yes, I'm aware this sounds like I'm at a beauty pageant.

What’s the strangest job you’ve ever had?

Renting out bikes to foreign students from a converted toilets in Cambridge!

If you could instantly master one new skill, what would it be?

Snatching (Olympic lift)
