Part of the IT Leaders 100 - a list of the most influential IT leaders in the UK in 2024.

Gaynor is a curious leader who has spent her career pushing herself to move beyond her comfort zone. Immersion in several sectors has provided a practical and immersive experience by which she has built her skills as a coach leader with a deep understanding on what motivates and drives people and how to help them develop their full potential.

How did you get into IT?

I moved into IT following a first career in geology, where collection, analysis and interpretation of data was critical.

What do you consider your greatest IT achievement of the last 12 months?

Completion of two years as an Associate NED and moving to the University of Birmingham have honed essential skills in digital transformation. I am seeking to leverage these to benefit the students and staff and to deliver the 2030 vision.

How do you ensure diversity is taken into account in your IT recruitment?

I am proud to be involved in the University's work on its Race Equality Charter, and am a leader and ally for EDI.

Which technology are you currently most excited by, and why?

Automation and AI are areas that the University is leveraging to maximise efficiency.

What would an outsider find the most surprising part of your job?

I specialise in people, engagement and culture, which might not be the things that are first thought of in such a role.

What's your secret talent?

I am a keen hiker and am looking forward to completing the Peak District Challenge in the summer with friends.

What makes you laugh?

Watching old episodes of Fawlty Towers.
