How did you get into IT?

My father was an engineer and he loved maths. He was always problem-solving and getting us involved especially after diner - I just miss those days. This love of computing played out in my secondary education: I was always in the computer room and also enjoyed business studies. I became a computer science teacher and then decided to set up my own business teaching and educating young people to get into STEM careers.

How do you ensure diversity is taken into account in your IT recruitment?

I do this intentionally - it's all about equality and equity for us, and this is part of our recruitment strategy. We give equal access to all, making sure that we recruit in places where we know that people will be able to apply.

In terms of equity, we do this really well - especially if our audience are disabled. We recruit in areas where they can access it, and also at churches, libraries, in diverse WhatsApp groups, and grassroot community groups.

Which technology are you currently most excited by?

Web3 - because it encompasses everything including AI, blockchain, metaverse and it is an opportunity to get everyone involved, where we are all winners.

What would an outsider find the most surprising part of your job?

That I get the opportunity to be able to learn new things every single day and be part of the planning and meeting of the organisation's strategic goals.

What's your secret talent?

I'm an amazing singer - but nobody believes it. I do. When I sing, the heavens open.

What makes you laugh?

I like it when people intentionally make me laugh - I find it funny.
