Sandra Margol
‘Sandra isn’t just building interfaces — she’s building trust between our product and our customers’
Part of the Tech Women Celebration 50 – a curated list of some of the most inspirational women working at all levels of tech
Sandra Margol is a Software Developer at measurable.energy, where she designs, builds and maintains the cloud‑connected hub behind the company's AI‑driven smart sockets.
Joining the engineering team in January 2023, she relishes turning ideas into code that eliminates wasted energy in buildings and helps organisations meet net‑zero goals. Before pivoting into technology, Sandra spent nine years with Care UK as an administrator, honing process design, documentation and stakeholder service. She also served as a health‑care assistant at The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and as a senior carer at Franklin House Care Home, experiences that deepened her empathy and user‑first mindset.
Today, Sandra combines those people‑centered skills with a passion for clean‑tech, producing features that monitor appliance‑level consumption, trigger carbon‑saving automations and surface actionable insights. Colleagues value her calm troubleshooting style and her belief that "there's always a way", if you listen to both data and users.
What do you consider the nominees biggest achievement to date?
Sandra’s greatest achievement is her remarkable growth from junior developer to a cornerstone of measurable.energy’s product development team - a journey defined by talent, tenacity, and technical excellence.
Joining during a pivotal scaling phase, Sandra quickly became an influential voice in shaping our user-facing software. Her rise wasn’t about seniority but impact, moving from small enhancements to leading major feature rollouts that drive measurable.energy’s commercial success.
A standout example is her work on occupancy visualisations, which help clients make real-time, data-driven decisions to reduce wasted energy. She also led development of the Installer App, improving setup reliability and reducing onboarding times for engineers in the field. Another key project, the advanced system log UI, brought transparency and control to system monitoring, empowering both clients and internal teams.
Recognized as the company’s UI champion, Sandra consistently advocates for usability, consistency, and the end-user experience. Her ability to bring clarity to complexity and her instinct for user-centric design have elevated the entire product.
“Sandra’s work ethic and intuition for clean, user-focused design continually impress the team. She’s not just building interfaces. She’s building trust between our product and our customers.” Adam Wright, Product Director, measurable.energy
What is the most significant challenge the nominee has overcome?
One of Sandra’s greatest challenges came during the development of a complex internal tool to manage the online deployment of measurable.energy’s hardware - a system critical to both support teams and end customers.
The project aimed to simplify how devices were tracked and brought online in the field. Sandra led the frontend development, but as the first internal release approached, stakeholder feedback was blunt: the interface didn’t reflect real workflows, controls were unintuitive, and the solution missed the mark.
Instead of being discouraged, Sandra embraced the criticism with maturity and curiosity. She organized follow-up sessions, listened to user frustrations, and worked to deeply understand their operational needs. Then, she rebuilt the feature from the ground up aligning it directly with how the support team worked.
The result was a tool that quickly became integral to measurable.energy’s deployment process. It improved visibility, reduced onboarding time, and empowered non-technical staff to manage installations confidently and accurately.
“Sandra didn’t just patch things up. She rethought the whole process. The new deployment tool is a game-changer for the team and has transformed our day-to-day operations.”
— Mashal Sadiq, Head of Customer Success, measurable.energy
This challenge stands out not just for its technical complexity, but for Sandra’s leadership, empathy, and resilience. She turned a moment of setback into shared success, strengthening collaboration and trust across teams.
Tell us something about the nominee people would find surprising
Few know that Sandra’s connection to space is more than metaphorical — it’s real. Through her work at measurable.energy, she’s linked to Polish astronaut Sławosz Uznaniński-Wisniewski, the first Pole to live aboard the International Space Station as part of the Axiom-4 mission.
measurable.energy’s journey beyond Earth began in 2022 with AX-1, the first private crewed ISS mission, when the commander, a friend of the company, carried its launch badge into orbit. Seventeen days and 7 million kilometres later, it returned to Earth as a symbol of innovation and exploration.
Now, Sandra continues that legacy. As Uznaniński-Wisniewski represents Poland in space, her role at measurable.energy connects sustainability, technology, and national pride in a truly cosmic full circle.
