Dr. Maryleen Amaizi
‘Through technical excellence and inclusivity, Maryleen not only advanced her own career but opened pathways for many others’
Part of the Tech Women Celebration 50 – a curated list of some of the most inspirational women working at all levels of tech
Dr. Maryleen Amaizu, a Nigerian-born AI pioneer, is a Senior Machine Learning Engineer at Redgate Software, where she spearheads innovative synthetic data solutions to enhance data privacy and software testing. With a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Leicester, her research on privacy-preserving machine learning for resource-constrained environments has set benchmarks for ethical AI, published in top journals like IEEE Transactions on Sustainable Computing. Previously, as Principal Investigator at The Alan Turing Institute, she led an AI-powered Trust Index project to combat misinformation, applying rigorous ethical frameworks.
A passionate mentor, Maryleen has empowered 500+ trainees through Data+AI apprenticeships and bootcamps and 10,000 learners globally via Neuromatch Academy, fostering Africa's digital future. Her impactful work earned her the Everywoman in Technology AI Champion Award (2025) and recognition as a finalist in the Black Tech Achievement Awards.
With expertise in MLOps, federated learning, and data security, she bridges academia, industry, and social impact, driving inclusive innovation. A sought-after speaker and IEEE journal reviewer, Maryleen is committed to shaping ethical, transformative AI solutions, particularly for African communities, making her a trailblazer in the global tech landscape.
What does the nominee consider to be her biggest achievement to date?
Maryleen’s standout achievement is earning recognition as a global leader in AI, securing the prestigious Global Talent Visa Awards in both the UK and Australia - a rare feat reserved for those demonstrating exceptional, world-class impact in digital technology. These awards represent more than visas; they acknowledge individuals whose work transforms industries and influences global tech ecosystems.
For Maryleen, they validate years of dedication to building innovative, responsible AI systems through research, engineering, and leadership. The selection process is highly competitive, requiring proof of technical breakthroughs, thought leadership, and community impact. Achieving this twice, across two continents, underscores the global weight of her contributions.
Her recognition reflects the breadth of her influence and signals to women and underrepresented professionals that their aspirations in tech are possible. Ultimately, her greatest achievement is not personal acclaim, but a global endorsement of her vision: that AI can be ethical, responsible, and empowering for all.
What is the most significant challenge the nominee has overcome?
One of Maryleen’s greatest challenges was breaking into and advancing within the male-dominated tech industry as a Black woman and immigrant. Lacking mentors and facing uncertainty about building a global career, she turned these barriers into fuel for resilience. Pursuing a PhD at the University of Leicester in privacy-preserving machine learning, she proved her technical expertise and gained credibility in spaces where representation was scarce.
She then transformed her experience into opportunity for others. As co-founder of Glotale, she built a platform connecting diverse professionals to global tech hubs, helping over 1,000 people assess eligibility for international tech visas. Maryleen’s journey shows how systemic barriers can become stepping stones. Through technical excellence and inclusivity, she not only advanced her own career but opened pathways for many others.
