Oisin Doherty

Part of the Rising Stars 30 — a list of the UK's most talented young tech professionals in 2025

Oisin’s entry into IT was shaped by his studies in Sustainable Development at the University of Edinburgh, where he recognised technology as both a driver of environmental solutions and potential challenges. Not having a traditional technical background, he has used his sustainability expertise to bring a human-centred perspective to IT, focusing on digital sustainability. In his work with the University’s Website and Communications Team, Oisin has driven significant environmental impact through technological innovation.

His work has led to direct CO2 emission savings, reducing the University’s digital carbon footprint by 25 tonnes annually through the application of sustainable web design principles. Currently, Oisin is exploring grid-aware websites, which adapt to real-time energy grid data to minimise environmental impact.

Oisin champions behavioural change through training videos and presentations, spreading awareness of digital sustainability across the University and beyond. His efforts have been recognised by leading agencies and he has presented at conferences establishing himself, at a young age, as a thought leader in the field.

Outside of work, Oisin is a keen bread baker, experimenting with different recipes from sourdough to soda bread.
