Dev Aditya
Part of the Rising Stars 30 — a list of the UK's most talented young tech professionals in 2025
Dev is not just a technologist but a global educator and visionary pioneer.
As a consequence of the pandemic’s disruption of learning, Dev began teaching disadvantaged students online, eventually reaching 35,000 pupils. He then taught himself AI development and co-created Beatrice, an AI teacher, launched in January 2021, 18 months before ChatGPT. Deployed in UNHCR camps in Iraq, Beatrice showcased Dev’s ability to merge technical ingenuity with empathy for marginalised learners.
Despite holding a law degree, Dev’s potential earned him direct admission to a PhD in Computer Science at Brunel University, backed by an Innovate UK-funded AI project and early training at The Alan Turing Institute.
In 2024, he achieved a breakthrough by enabling large language models to run offline on low-cost devices, reducing costs by 80% and increasing accessibility for learners in no-connectivity zones. This Edge AI innovation has been deployed in partnership with African governments, reaching hundreds of thousands, including refugees and rural youth.
Dev’s work seeks to bridge technology and social impact. He plans to release his technology as a public SDK, empowering developers globally.
