Oracle: AI agents rely on trust, not tech - Ctrl Alt Lead podcast

Stop chasing AI, start chasing outcomes

In the first episode of season 7, Ctrl Alt Lead asks Oracle’s UK country leader Siobhan Wilson: Can IT leaders really trust AI agents?

We’re kicking off our seventh season from Oracle’s AI World Tour in London. In this special episode Siobhan Wilson, Oracle’s UK country leader, unpacks what agentic AI actually means in practice, why it’s Oracle’s major focus this year, and why it should be yours, too.

A central theme was Oracle’s push to embed AI across every layer of the stack, from infrastructure and data platforms through to industry applications. But Siobhan was clear that technology alone is not the point:

“Everybody knows that AI is going to help,” she said, “but we’re not quite sure what the business outcomes are in some areas.” For Oracle, the answer lies in data: unifying, managing and governing it properly so organisations can turn AI on with confidence and get tangible results, rather than experimentation for its own sake.

Confidence and trust were central themes throughout the event, signalling a quiet shift from hype to outcomes in the approach to AI. That move is accelerating, even in heavily regulated sectors, alongside major UK‑specific investments in sovereign cloud and clinical AI.

But it’s the closing question that will resonate most with digital leaders. As more responsibility is handed over to AI agents, trust becomes unavoidable: trust in data, trust in security, and trust in the systems making decisions at speed.

Wilson argues that trust has to be built in from the ground up, drawing on decades of experience securing enterprise data. For IT leaders weighing how far and how fast to deploy AI agents, it’s a conversation that is both necessary and overdue.
