The CIO of AtkinsRéalis had entered the awards twice before, and finally got to celebrate his win.

Steve Capper, CIO of AtkinsRéalis, took home the most prestigious prize in the IT industry at last night's UK IT Industry Awards, with judges unanimously naming him IT Leader of the Year.

This was his third time being nominated for the award and his first win, having come second twice before.

An emotional Capper said, "I'm thrilled. I've entered this competition three times, come second twice, and finally won it. It means so much to me. It's like I've won an award for the team; they've made me look good."

He went on to give full credit to his team, saying, "I'm proud of the team...It's fabulous to win the award on their behalf."

He added, "Everybody's a winner tonight, and I'm just stoked at the moment. Can hardly talk."

Capper compared the experience to the Oscars, saying, "To win an award here tonight, or to be highly commended, or to be even involved - you've already won. It's amazing."
