The Women in IT Excellence Awards 2019 is now open for nominations!

Launching on International Women's Day, Computing is delighted to announce the return of the Women in IT Excellence Awards for its third year

Computing is delighted to announce that the Women in Technology Excellence Awards is back and now open for entries.

Now in its third year, the awards have seen 58 talented women win trophies, before a live audience of over 1,000 IT professionals.

And the awards aren't just growing in terms of number of entrants and attendees. With several bars, photo booths, games and performers, not to mention the inspirational speakers, comedian and awards presentation itself, each year has managed to be even better than the last.

Computing launched these awards in order to inspire more women to join the industry, and to promote and celebrate the many fantastic female success stories which exist within IT. And whilst many thousands have seen the winners both on the night, and in Computing's subsequent coverage, the sad truth is that the industry still has a massive problem.

Women make up less than 20 per cent of the UK IT workforce, and schools and universities report little to no growth in the numbers of females taking STEM subjects.

Until we as an industry crack this problem, we will continue to miss out on the 50 per cent of the talent and ideas out there.

Last year, Control Risks Group CIO Natascha Polderman was named IT Leader of the Year in the SME category at the 2018 Women in IT Excellence Awards.

"I was proud to have won the award, and it was a special night to be at a table with so many other women from my company, as seven had been shortlisted," she said.

"It gave us an opportunity to showcase our talented and diverse tech teams outside the organisation. The company celebrated our awards and I think that we sent a really positive message about females in tech within the company and to our clients.

"I also think the awards motivated our shortlisted candidates - a boost of confidence is sometimes all you need."

It's a fantastic cause, and a truly special way to celebrate success. Please enter yourselves and nominate your colleagues, and come along to what is sure to be one of the most unmissable events of the year.
