AMD Radeon RX 590 launch set for 15 November

Competitive price mooted for Nvidia GTX 1060-beating AMD Radeon RX 590

AMD is set to launch a Radeon RX 590 GPU on 15 November, according to the latest rumours coming out of China.

The device will be based on a 12-nanometre FinFET process, with a shrink of the Polaris architecture, dubbed Polaris 30. This should offer a useful performance bump over cards based on the RX 580, and handily outpaced Nvidia's GTX 1060-series.

While GPU launches from AMD have been disappointing in recent years, leaked gaming benchmarks published by the hardware site Hexus indicate that the RX 590 could provide a surprise.

The benchmarks, based on the game Final Fantasy XV, indicate an especially strong performance at 1080p gaming, solidly outpacing Nvidia's GTX 1060. Benchmarks at 1440p also look good.

The price of cards, according to Chinese site MyDrivers, will weigh in at around 2099 renminbi, which equates to about £235 - presumably plus 20 per cent VAT, making the UK price of the card around £300 or less.

The release of the card follows the puncturing of the crypto-currency bubble, which has left suppliers with an overhang of AMD graphics cards that will need to be offloaded, which should make for a promising Black Friday for budget-conscious PC gamers.

Leaks on specialist websites, such as VideoCardz, indicate that graphics cards from Asus and PowerColor will be available at launch, with PowerColor preparing a chunky Red Devil-branded card.

Earlier rumours around Polaris 30 had suggested that AMD was planning a range of Radeon RX 600 graphics cards.
