Asus rumoured to unveil ZenFone 5 Lite at MWC 2018

Asus ZenFone 5 Lite expected to tout four camera sensors, two on the front and two at the back

Asus will unveil a "lite" version of its ZenFone 5 at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) conference in Barcelona later this month, fresh reports suggest.

The rumours come via notorious tipster Evan Blass and state that the company's latest handset will be called the ZenFone 5 Lite, and is expected to tout four camera sensors, two on the front and two at the back, just like Honor's latest Honor 9 Lite smartphone.

Blass took to Twitter on Friday to reveal leaked images of the rumoured ZenFone 5 Lite device, posting photos that clearly show a vertical dual camera module on the back of the phone as well as two selfie cameras on the front.

The phone also appears to have a front-facing flash, alongside a dual-LED flash module on the back with a rear camera setup with a 120-degree wide-angle lens. The leaked renders also demonstrated proof of a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.

Blass also posted that the phone would come in three different colours of: Midnight Black, Moonlight White, and Rouge Red, adding that it will sport a Full-HD+ display of 1080x2160 pixels with an 18:9 aspect ratio.

Asus has already sent out its invites for MWC 2018, scheduled for a 7:30pm kick off (central european time) on February 27. The ZenFone 5 Max is also expected to make an appearance at the launch, most likely alongside many other Asus devices, such as tablets, smartwatches and laptops.

While Asus is a force to be reckoned with in mothboards, laptops, monitors and other PC-related hardware, it is something of an also-ran in smartphones.

When V3 reviewed the company's last ZenFone, the ZenFone AR, in September, we found the design uninspired and the battery life disappointing in normal usage.
