OneDrive down: 'We're having issues' admits Microsoft - UPDATED

Cloud storage and filesharing service offline for hours for many users

UPDATE: 11/08/17 23:00 BST - Microsoft is aware of the issue but doesn't appear to have a definitive fix in mind. Its latest update on its Office 365 Service health page is: 'Current status: We're continuing to troubleshoot within the affected infrastructure to isolate the root cause and address impact to the service.'

11/08/17 21:00 BST - Microsoft is aware of the issue and is working on a solution.

"We've shifted some traffic to alternate healthy infrastructure to reduce impact while we isolate the root cause. We're continuing to analyze the infrastructure and formulate a remediation plan to address the continued impact," it has stated on its Office 365 Service Health page.

It described the problem as: 'Some users are intermittently unable to access their OneDrive files.'

Original story below:

Microsoft OneDrive, the cloud-based storage service, is down for many users.

Problems were first reported in the early afternoon of the 11th August, and many users were still unable to connect to the service seven hours later, in the early evening.

According to some posts on Twitter, some users have been unable to connect to OneDrive since the early hours of the morning.

Other users posted questions to the service, which appeared to go unanswered.

Microsoft's own service status page admitted 'We're having issues'. The page showed however that Outlook.com was working, as was Office 365.

Website Down Detector showed that problems had been reported especially with file synchronisation, log in, and the entire OneDrive service.

This follows on from log in and authentication issues experienced by many Microsoft services in March this year, with many Outlook users reporting persistent issues.

Skype, the firm's video conferencing and instant messaging service, also experienced similar problems around the same time. Microsoft acquired Skype for $8.5 billion in May 2011.

Microsoft have been contacted for comment on OneDrive and other issues. This story will be updated when we hear back from them.
