The National Archives is looking for a head of digital services and is offering up to £65,000 for the right candidate, who will have the task of shaping, designing, developing and delivering the digital services that the organisation provides.
The winning candidate will, in particular, be required to focus on the National Archives' website and its search service, Discovery.
He or she will have to lead the organisation's digital strategy, ensuring that it delivers "world-class digital services that meet user's needs". It said that as a senior leader in the organisation, they will foster a wider cultural change, so that it becomes a digital archive ‘by instinct and design'.
The selected candidates role and responsibilities include: embedding agile working practices and facilitating a wider digital culture change across the organisation; ensuring it meets the GDS Service Standards; representing its digital services to senior stakeholders and user groups; and engaging with technical experts, developer communities and industry to define, develop and deliver the best platform to realise the objectives of the digital strategy.
Essential skills required for applicants include strong experience as a digital leader, a proven trackc record in delivering digital services that meet user's needs, and proven credibility at a senior level with demonstrable experience of relationship development. They will also need to have excellent stakeholder engagement and networking skills and strong negotiation and interpersonal skills.
Candidates will need a strong academic background with a degree-level qualification or equivalent experience, strong administrative skills and excellent oral and written communication skills "with the presence and confidence to represent The National Archives nationally and internationally".
The National Archives said it would be a bonus for candidates to have experience of providing digital services in either a public sector or archival context or setting.
The permanent role will be based at the National Archives' headquarters in Kew in West London.
