Just nine per cent of senior IT leaders are women - Report

Report reveals no progress on increasing the number of women in senior IT positions since 2016 as Computing launches Women in IT Excellence Awards

Just nine per cent of senior IT leaders in the UK are women.

That's according to a report from recruitment firm Harvey Nash and KPMG entitled 'Harvey Nash / KPMG CIO Survey 2017'.

The report adds that the figure remains the same as 2016, revealing that no progress has been made. This is despite another finding, that 35 per cent of firms surveyed have a formal diversity initiative in place.

Computing has launched the Women in IT Excellence Awards, designed to both celebrate the successes of women in IT, and encourage and inspire more women to enter the industry.

Launching the awards, journalist and presenter Holly Brockwell said:

"Women in IT are forever hearing about what a rare find they are - and while it's true that the industry is frustratingly disproportionate, that conversation sometimes drowns out discussion about the groundbreaking work being done by women in the industry every day.

"We believe the way to inspire the next generation is to show them the remarkable footsteps they're following in. We want to highlight the entrepreneurs, the innovators, the leaders and the pioneers: the women building the infrastructure of the future."

Entries are open now, and will close on Friday 30th June at 5pm.

There are 14 categories, and anyone can nominate a qualifying person for any awards. Categories include Innovator of the Year, Digital Leader of the Year, Diversity Project of the Year, and CIO of the Year.
