News UK CTO Christina Scott promoted to News Corp deputy CTO
Scott to share deputy role with News Corp CISO Latha Maripuri
Christina Scott, News UK chief technology officer, has been appointed CTO of News Corp, the global media company that owns News UK.
The appointment was made after interim CTO Marc Frons was appointed CTO at News Corp on a permanent basis. Alongside Scott, News Corp's current chief information security officer (CISO), Latha Maripuri, will also serve as a deputy CTO.
Both will retain their respective existing positions and responsibilities.
"News UK and News Corp's publications have lots of shared challenges and opportunities. I look forward to taking a global approach across the News Corp portfolio, while continuing to build on the digital growth and innovation across News UK titles," said Scott.
Robert Thomson, CEO of News Corps said that he expected "this tech triumvirate [to] ensure that News Corp and our businesses are at the forefront of technological change".
He continued: "In his time as interim CTO, Marc has effectively and speedily advanced our digital transformation across the companies.
"Whether it involves enterprise software, cyber security or mobile apps, Marc, Latha and Christina have the expertise and leadership skills we need to expedite the digital development of our news, publishing, real estate and other enterprises."
Marc Frons joined News Corp in 2015 as senior vice president and global head of mobile platform and deputy head of technology. He was named interim CTO after Paul Cheesbrough left News Corp to become CTO at 21st Century Fox. Before joining News Corp, Frons had served in various senior IT roles in the US media.
Latha Maripuri has been CISO at News Corp since 2015 when she joined from IBM. At IBM, she served as director of IBM security services. She began her career at IBM in 1998.
Scott, meanwhile, was CIO at the Financial Times before joining News UK in December 2015. Prior to that, she also worked at the BBC, ITV Digital and IT services company Accenture. She is currently number two in Computing's Top 100 CIOs.
In December, Scott spoke to Computing about the challenge of moving from the FT to News UK, and also why she doesn't think the currently fashionable chief digital officer (CDO) role is necessary.
