HMRC to hire trio of deputy IT directors for cloud, collaboration and IT delivery

HMRC to build team of senior IT leaders to help with 'massive digital revolution'

HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) is looking for three deputy IT directors to help it with what it calls 'a massive digital revolution' - in addition to replacing chief information and digital officer (CDIO) Mark Dearnley, who left at the end of last year.

It come as the organisation grapples with the prospect of replacing its Aspire mega-outsourcing contracts with Accenture and Capgemini, which had been due to expire this year, but which have been extended for three years for a sum that HMRC is refusing to disclose.

But now, it wants to hire deputy IT directors in three different areas, all of which will report to the new CDIO. It said it was "building an exceptional team of highly skilled and knowledgable senior IT leaders from diverse backgrounds across both public and private sectors".

The first vacancy is for a deputy IT director for cloud - a role that HMRC had first advertised for back in June 2016. The successful candidate will lead all of HMRC's IT infrastructure services and hardware, including the delivery of all cloud services. They will also be responsible for running all IT on the HMRC estate and will be accountable for ensuring that all platforms run effectively.

Applicants should have experience of working in a similar environment and a track record of working with a selection of cloud providers and other relevant IT services. HMRC is offering a salary of up to £100,000 for the full-time role based in Telford in the West Midlands.

The second vacancy is for a deputy IT director for IT delivery. According to the job advert, the successful individual will have responsibility for leading the delivery of key IT projects based on eight core programmes within the HMRC transformation programme, as well as the delivery of major IT programmes as they arise.

Key deliverables include: managing relationships across a multi-supplier environment, challenging supplier solutions, costs and timescales and working seamlessly with the other functional units in the chief digital and information office to achieve ‘flawless delivery'. HMRC is offering between £64,000 and £117,800 for this position, and is flexible in terms of location.

The third and final opening is for a deputy IT director that focuses on collaboration.

"As an outstanding leader and strong communicator you will lead the development, implementation and operation of a collaboration programme with a wide and dynamic range of partners," the job advert reads.

It continues: "This will involve creating an approach that results in a step change in performance and culture."

HMRC is flexible with regard to location for this role: the successful candidate could be based in London, Newcastle, Manchester, Telford, Shipley or Worthing. It is offering a salary of up to £100,000 per annum for this position.

The organisation notes that all of its deputy directors are members of the department's senior management team and are expected to play an active role in the ongoing development of the organisation.

Applications for the collaboration role close on 12 May 2017, while applications for the deputy IT director of cloud and IT delivery roles close on 15 May 2017.
